Facts are only information you trust enough to believe in [14 Mar 2004|04:56pm]
... which has nothing whatsoever to do with this post - or at least I don't think so.

Someone asked me a few days ago if I could outline the steps that make magic work better, and after I giggled a lot, I did come up with a couple of rules of thumb. The problem is that when you want something to happen, you have no idea who else may be working for or against circumstances that would help it happen, so you really never know who did what. Given that, "rules" can't ever really be tested, and you really can never know what happened.

Still, there are a couple of good rules of thumb that seem to apply generally. First is that you need to be going after something you want personally, that you have an emotional attachment to getting. If what you want is something "selfless", then you need to expect some kind of peripheral reward for going after it - the approval of your group, your better chances of making it into Heaven, something that you believe will happen if you work at it. Magic is the application of will and desire, and if you do not personally desire either the thing you are after or the perceived consequences, nothing much is going to happen.

Second, and harder to manage, is to get yourself to the point where you realize you actually don't know what is going to happen, or how it will work. This is because the more constraints you put on how a thing happens, the less likely there are to be circumstances which can be tweaked to make it happen.

As usually happens, the person asking wasn't happy with those answers, because they offer little control, and little opportunity to think of yourself as charitable. The question becomes whether you want to keep your self image or actually do the work.

Ahh, the joys of knowing who to ask... [08 Mar 2004|09:42am]
Well, I finally got background images up - bright, huh? After almost despairing of wandering through FAQ pages for the rest of my life, I got in touch with baba-prague, who had managed it before me, and asked. While she wasn't sure just where it was, she was sure it was available, and I started hunting in a more hopeful mood. Found a link to the correct FAQ page through howto in case anyone else is interested.

Off to do some more community wandering and see who's here that's interesting. Right. I think I'll set a timer before I start - there's many too many places to look at here.

like life, death, and crabgrass... [07 Mar 2004|04:08am]
I was feeling colorful this morning. Taxes are off to Uncle - another year finally done and finished, and now I get to go after all the things that backed up on my schedule while I was fighting getting started on taxes.

At least this year I think I have a handle on WHY I've had so much trouble getting them done. I really don't understand them, except on a general basis, and a long time ago I made the decision for myself that I had to understand what I was doing, because otherwise I was going to mess it up and get thumped for it.

Now, this particular decision has done me a lot of good, but I'm now looking at all the things I have a hard time with to see how many other things give me problems because of it. Looks as though I'm going to have to write some exceptions into the program.

Another day, another thousand things... [02 Mar 2004|08:52am]

Well, the colors aren't just where I want them yet, and I still have to figure out how to post background graphics, but at least the changes I'm making seem to work so far.

Yesterday I called my printer and said "go" - sometime in the next week I'll send them a check, and will finally be on the road to having a real, live Tarot deck available. Two actually, since I've decided to print a half-size deck at the same time and see what happens.

Now for all the details - how to come up with a UPC code, and graphics for the boxes, and getting the companion booklet available onsite as a PDF.

Right. Today is the first runthrough of taxes for 2003, and a chiropractor's appointment (I actually like those - hearing everything crackle and pop and settle back into place is kinda nice).

Testing, testing [28 Feb 2004|11:27pm]
This is my first entry - for right now, the main purpose is simply to get something up so that I can take a look at the journal before I start playing around with style changes and whatever comes up. Hi to everyone.
